"Violent crime in Texas has stolen too many dreams. Words alone cannot comfort a child who has lost a parent, we are here at the Tree of Angels to say that we care about you and pray that in the blessed season, your hearts find peace tonight"...

Former Texas Governor George W Bush

"It was our first Christmas without our child, the Tree of Angels helped us to be near others who also were grieving"

"I named my daughter after an angel, but I never dreamed she'd become one. We have found that the Tree of Angels to be one of the most comforting times throughout the holidays for my family and me to now honor our daughter's memory"

Tree of Angels History

In 1991, the Tree of Angels was initiated in Austin, Texas by Verna Lee, Executive Advisor of People Against Violent Crime, to recognize that the holiday season is a difficult time for victims and their families. This special event in December honors surviving victims of violent crime and victims' families by making it possible for loved ones to bring an Angel to place on a special Christmas tree. It is our hope that the Tree of Angels allows us to remember, include and support victims of crime. These innocent victims are a part of our lives and a part of the community. Since its inception, the Tree of Angels has become a memorable tradition observed in many Texas communities.
On March 21, 2000 the United States Paten and Trademark Office registered the Tree of Angels. On November 9, 2000, former Governor George W. Bush proclaimed December 4 through December 10 as Tree of Angels Week in Texas.
A detailed "How-To-Guide" is available on how to establish a "Tree of Angels" ceremony in your community. We ask that you contact Verna Lee at PAVC (512-837-PAVC) or E-mail PAVC and add your city/county to the growing list that have made the Tree of Angels an annual event.

Governor Perry proclaims the December 5th - 11th as Tree of Angels Week in Texas.
